Nurturing and Retaining the Best Talent in Litigation Support
Presented By: Caroline Sweeney, Director of Practice Group Technology Services, Dorsey & Whitney
Over the past decade, Litigation Support has grown and developed, creating exciting career opportunities. Increasingly, law firms and corporations are creating litigation support departments and adding e-discovery experts to their ranks. As a Litigation Support Manager, the challenge becomes not only meeting the everyday demands of the legal teams but also in creating a career path for everyone in the department. It is important to nurture and retain the best talent in this "always on the move" industry. On February 17, Global Litigation Solutions will host a webinar providing suggestions and tips, based on real-world experience, for developing and managing a litigation support team. Caroline Sweeney, Director of Practice Group Technology Services, will share her experiences in expanding Dorsey & Whitney's litigation support services and managing the Litigation Technology Services group. Among the discussion topics:
• Defining your department's scope of services • Identifying opportunities for the department and people • Professional development and training • Balancing billable hours with non-billable responsibilities • Marketing your department
Caroline is responsible for the delivery of litigation technology services to all Dorsey & Whitney offices. This includes overseeing the design and implementation of document and information management databases, e-discovery processing services, delivery of trial technology support, development of customized practice-specific applications, managed document review services, software evaluation and implementation, graphics & multimedia services, coordination of vendor services and internal training programs for attorneys and paralegals. In addition, Caroline is a member of Dorsey & Whitney’s Electronic Discovery Practice Group, works closely with Advocacy Group Management and is a member of Dorsey’s Senior Information Systems Management team. She has over 20 years of experience in the litigation support industry, having worked in both the law firm and litigation support vendor environments. She is a former instructor of “Computers in the Law” at the Minnesota Legal Assistant Institute, has participated as a presenter/faculty member at various conferences on litigation support and e-discovery topics, and has been a faculty member for Kroll OnTrack’s E-Discovery Certification programs. Caroline is a co-founder of the Minnesota Association of Litigation Support Managers and continues as a current board member. She is also a member of the local Women in E-Discovery chapter and ALSP.
